We moved from Phoenix to Benson. We used the first time visitor coupon for the SKP Saguaro RV park spending eight nights here. Seven on the coupon and the first night boon docking. Here we are on the boon docking site. A little tight, Jim's awning, when fully extended, touched my bed room slide.
The next day we moved to a full hook up site (lot rent and power).
Sunset before the rain and wind visited us.
Clear skies after the storm passed.
Some of the yard art.
We used Benson as a central point for sight seeing. We went to Tombstone, AZ
I did not think I would get much out of the gun fight.
The actors and stunt men did a nice job of entertaining us.
Everyone said we had to visit Big Nose Kate's Saloon so we ate lunch there.
The entertainer did a nice job.
Since it was crowded we let another group of three sit with us. Meet as strangers and departed as friends.
I had to photo this sign.
Later we talked with one of the stunt men. He was retired Coast Guard. Very interesting life.
The next day we went to Bisbee and visited the Queen Mine. This mine produced many minerals besides Copper. From their web side, "estimated production of 8,032,352,000 lbs of copper, 2,871,786 ounces of gold, 77,162,986 ounces of silver, 304,627,600 lbs of lead and 371,945,900 lbs of zinc!"
We had to wear the hard hat, jacket and light.
The man in blue is Sonny and your mining guide. He is 80 and the last miner to leave the mine when it was closed. He tells of serving a cave in, in 1969, taking two years to recover before he could go back to work.
This rail bicycle was used by the supervisor whom had to travel the mine multiple times per 12 hour shift.
A photo of Sonny setting charges to brake the face loose.
The charges had to be placed in this pattern to brake away the rock face. The holes are about eight feet deep.
Just south of the Queen Mine is this Open Pit mine.
