Monday we were planning to drive to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. This picture shows why we did not go.
Jim and I cleaned the snow off the slide toppers of all three rigs. it was very wet and heavy.
Tuesday Jim & Vickie and I went about sixty miles west to the Grand Canyon Cavern. The roads in the Grand Canyon still had some ice on them.
This cavern is the largest dry cavern in the US of A and 3rd largest in the world. WE are 210 feet down by elevator.
During the Cuban missile crisis underground areas were declared Emergency Shelters. This one is still on the books.
The tour guide said three days down here with now water would be enough to kill you. You dehydrate from the inside out because of the dust. This guy fell in and broke his back.

This sleuth fell in and tried to claw his way out. He was 90% intact and taken the to Phoenix college. They replaced him with this replica. They have a claw found in the rock on display.
The snow had come down to about 6500 feet. Wilson is at 7000 and the cavern at 5000 feet.
The town of Seligman is on the way to the Cavern and part of the original route 66. They keep that era.
Wednesday we drove to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Clear roads and clear sky.
Not many have seen the Grand Canyon with snow on the ground. There were many visitors there. What a beautiful time.

The Elk did not mind the snow.
The snow helps to identify the hiking trail from the lodge down into the canyon.
This Buck had a beautiful rack. He walked away before I could get the camera.

This on was on the passenger side of the road about two feet from the truck. Every time the front fender got next to it it would spook. So it walked across in front of me and was fine with half the road between my motor and itself.

We left the Canyon driving out to Cameron where we at at the Trading Post Restaurant. Great me. Then south to Flagstaff and west to Williams. Great sunset a a great 12 hour day.
We arrived with clear weather and departed on Thursday with clear weather and roads back to Phoenix and warmer temperatures.
The first time we saw the canyon, it had snow. No matter how often we visit it, the first time was the best.
