2014-05-30 & 31 Dawson Creek - Prophet River Wayside - Laird

Friday May 30th we packed up to start our trip up the Alaskian Highway. We were in the final stages of packing up. Dave had done his first hookup to the trailer. We had raised the legs. I was by the tailgate of the truck when I heard a noise and saw Dave falling to the ground by the trailer steps. I instinctively turned towards him since I was facing the front of the truck at the tailgate. My right knee gave out and I went to the ground. I tried to stand with no luck. I semi crawled 10 feet to the picknick table and sat on the seat. Dave was up and about with just a scratch. His martial arts training instincts toke over and he handled the fall with a tuck and roll. However, I could not put much weight on my right leg. I asked Dave to get Ann's cane from the trailer. He finished the pack out and I hobbled to the passengers seat and waited. He had no choice, he was driving.

We pulled out and started our trip north. The logs reminded me of last years trip through Oregon.
This will be last of a large city for a while.
The high plains have good rolling hills

We stopped for the night at a national park with no facilities. First time Dave got a chance to experience boon docking in an RV. He filled the generator tank and did all the minimum requirements for setting up the trailer. Yep he was doing it all

Dave retrieved a piece of PVC I used for my weather station as a crutch. So Ann's cane and the PVC Crutch helped me move around a little.

Departing here we decided I needed crutches. Since there was nothing broken as far as we could tell and it only hurt when I walked on it we decided to stop at Fort Nelson to find crutches. We left ahead of the other two units and headed out. Again Dave had done everything, cooking, cleaning, pack up and driving.

This is our stop for fuel and "The Best  Honey Buns", Cinnamo.

I had planned on fueling here but did not think about the remoteness and higher price. $1.89 Canadian a liter. I took 180 liters or 45 gallons for $322. Canadian. That is $7.51 US D a gallon. Oh well a once in a life time trip.

The Honey Buns - Cinnamon Buns were good.
Since I was riding right seat and trying to take pictures out of a dirty windshield Dave agreed to clean it up.

 A young moose.

 Vast open wilderness. Beautiful.
I told you about log trucks. LOL

We assume they may be getting salt from the edge of the road.

They do own the highway until they are hit.
They had radio collars on them.

 Muncho Lake Lodge chandler.

  1. John: I recognize the diesel pump with the trailers (bathroom) in the background. We stopped there for cinnamon buns as well. Last year, their price was $7.99 a gallon. I remember it as being the highest price for diesel during our entire trip.
    Hurray for Dave!

  2. It may have been the highest diesel price we saw but we didn't purchase fuel there. We did however buy cinnamon buns there. That is also where I bought the funny soaps for my sister.
