I left Moab on the 24th of April. I stayed there an extra day because of the winds.Watching my MPG reading at 8.8 I realized I had a head wind also. I started seeing a little more green as I moved north.
Into Southern Idaho.
Salt Lake City with mountians on both sides. I remember they had the Winter Olympics here. I did not get out to the Olympic Village. That is on my next bucket list.
I drove down town to see the Mormon Tabernacle. Most parking seemed to be underground. That was a non starter for me because of my 12 foot antenna height. So I took this picture while I was at a stop light. I did visit the Mormon Tabernacle in Omaha so this one was not as high on my list.
Greg and Kate are shuttling their Montana and Dog House (pickup camper) out west. I was in contact with them and found they were in Twin Falls which was about 50 miles short of my planned stop. We coordinated to meet for lunch. I parked at the Flying J truck stop just off the interstate. We had lunch and they took me to Shoshone Water Falls. This falls is 14 feet taller than Niagara Falls. I was tired so I pulled out of the Flying J and drove one mile to the KOA and spent the night. Kate told me I was eating spaghetti with them. So I know better than to argue when food is involved.
Greg and Kate left Twin Falls KOA at 9 am with the Monty in tow headed to Walla Walla, Wa. I left a little later. My scenic drive was taking me up ID 55 and 95. So I adjusted my stop to McCall, ID.
I stopped at a rest area just south or east of Boise. There was a long line of dark black clouds off to the west. Walking back to the truck it started to rain. I wanted some lunch. When lunch was done I looked out the trailer window to snow. So self told me it was nap time. Two hours later I woke up to sunshine. The road was in good condition but did have switch backs and a nice stream running along side of it. I am seeing more green.
Up on one of the plateau I saw the clouds below the ridge line and did I mention so snow in the air.
The road remained wet and the temp gage said 34F.
I
called a campground in McCall to see if I could park there. The man
hesitated then said Yes well umm we are closed for renovations. I said ok. Then he said power is on and water you can park there. I am in
California. No one here and no bill. I texted him just now thank you and
will see if he calls for credit card number when he has his machine up
and running. With this being the fourth time I was in snow showers today I wanted off the road.
I left McCall and continued north. Can you say another snow shower. One time there were snow pellets (not hail) and they were making the road white. My NY driving (Upstate NY) came into play.
Looking down on White Bird Valley. I was going to stay there until I adjusted with Greg and Kate.
I called the Walla Walla campgrounds and asked if I could come in two
days early. I was tired of the cold 32F weather and wanted some warmth. They
are about 75F high and 45F low. Much better. So I continued my drive
and pulled into Walla Walla Monday instead of Wednesday. I am parked
here for a week.
You'll have to do the Olympic Village next time you are in the area. We loved it and plan to return next time we're in the area.
