Moab in the Rear View Mirror

Today was suppose to be my last day in Moab. The wind is gusting to 20 MPH so far and predicated for tomorrow also. I may stay here until Thursday. I will see in the morning.

Robbie and Alice Simons recommended Canyon Land NP and Dead Horse SP which I toured yesterday. Today I drove out to a locally known area Kane Creek also recommended by them. The road had a posted speed limit of 25MPH and ran along the Colorado River. At least the paved part did. The road is about one and a half vehicles wide or two if both crawl by or one stops. With the dually I stopped and let some Jeeps pass in the opposite direction. They had the big extended tires and we just had clearance. I did not see how close they came to the dual fender.
Here is one of the staging areas for off road vehicles to unload and ride. They were staging.

Oh this couple actually was from South Dakota, not just RV registered as I am.

I continued up the dirt road about three miles and saw the switch back after having the cliff on one side and the drop off on the other. Yes I was stopped when these photos were taken.

So I turned around and headed back to the trailer. I have had over load on the beauty in this area and did not like taking the dually up there. Blind corners and drop offs.

These photos are across the Colorado River of mountain bikers doing there thing.

Not sure what the hole was for but below leads me to believe it might be the start of a dwelling.

This reminds me a little of Coober Pedy Australia where they live under ground. Of course while visiting Monument Valley Reservation I saw the Hogan (earthen  domed dwellings) which work well in the heat and cold.
This was my last photo on the way back.

My time here has helped me appreciate how well Utah is for outdoor activities and supporting it. Boy am I out of shape.

I will be working my way up to Walla Walla, Wa. by 1 May. This is about 950 miles.

Safe travels all.

  1. Good call to stay put. The further north you get the stronger it was.
We pushed from Denver to get here in Twin Falls ahead of the wind.
Coming down Weber Canyon into SLC this morning it got a bit interesting with the DogHouse.
Just as we were arriving here in Twin Falls the wind really started to kick in and blew like crazy for about 4 hours. Now it's turned to rain.
Tomorrow we deadhead south to Casa Grand to fetch the Monty.
