We ( George and Rosetta) and I left Tucson, AZ on the 10th
and made the last leg to Quartzsite, AZ. We stayed at the Scenic Roads RV Park.
Friday I dove out to the circle to get my bearings and also down to the Ham
Fest area for the same reason. The MOC park is about 6 miles North of
Quartzsite and the Ham site is about 5 South. I went back to the park and asked
if I could get a refund for Saturday night and they stated we don’t normally do
this but handed me money back for that night. I stopped at the Vender area just south of I10. The BIG tent has not been erected yet but there is a mile of venders already set up on a side street. Talk about an RV flee market. You can get anything you want.
Yesterday I moved out to the circle N33*45.861' W114*10.516'.
This photo was from last year. They have their ducks in a row. A LONG yellow
rope is attached to a post in the center of the circle. The ran it out and
scribed an circle out which marks where the rear of the trailer will be. New
arrivals drive into the circle and straddle the yellow rope heading out of the
circle. When the trailer rear is on the scribed mark you stop and are done.
Part of this experience reminds me of Australia. The land is
baren except for the towns or stations. The sky is clear and bright. I can see
lots of stars at night. The only difference is Australia did not get this cold
in their winter. Of course I was almost on the Tropic of Capricorn there. We
are a few miles (713 miles) north of the Tropic of Cancer. It was 25 degrees at
5:30 this morning.
The campers operate on a noise prevention policy since we
are close together. They do not run generators from 10 PM to 7AM. Nikki and I
had Bladder Alarms this morning and was outside at 5:30. I checked my battery status
and felt there was enough to let me fire off the electric coffee maker. I
energized the inverter which provides 120VAC to the trailer from 12VDC. It did
the job and I still have battery reserve. Warm coffee is nice.
Battery reserve is important especially when not able to get
120VAC. The refrigerator, furnace and water heater control circuits all work
off 12VDC. The refrigerator will cool with 120VAC or propane. The furnace heats
with propane but needs 12VDC to run the blower fan and that is one of the
critical concerns with it being this cold. Need the reserve 12VDC for the
furnace fan. The water heater like the refrigerator uses 120VAC or propane. Out
here I have the water heater on propane and the refrigerator will use propane
when 120VAC is not energized.
I use my solar panels to charge the battery system I have.
It is 6:15 and I just finished my first cup of coffee. I will suffer until 7 AM for my next cup when I can start the generators. Life is tough. Well enough for today.
Edit - I just noticed I missed or did not publish about our Tucson stop. We spent three days there Jan 7-9. The first night David and Jo Anna organized a socal meet at Tiny's (hole in the wall looking Restaurant). Boy the food was great. There was 13 MOCers there. Tuesday George, Rosetta and I toured the Pima Air and Space Museum. Wed was a down day preparing for the next leg of our trip.

Reading your comments reminded me of our visit to Q. It did get cold at nite but probably not as cold as now. You will no doubt get a rhythm on your routine. We only had one battery and one generator and with your setup you will do great I'm sure. dl
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to our visit. Will be there tomorrow or Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteDamn the torpedoes.... have that second cup! :-)
