20140616 Palmer - Hope AK

We took a day trip into Anchorage.

We went to a great view at the end of the run way. Got to see landing planes and pictures of Anchorage across the bay.

We drove down the Kenai peninsula. The train track parallels the road.

Alaska weather. The Kenai Fjord is a rain forest with over 150 inches a hear of moisture in parts.

The moisture helps build the Glaciers. Lately they have recessed back.
Then we drove back down the Fjord or Kenai Peninsula to Hope, AK.

Moose do have the right a way.
We arrived in Hope, Ak. This is the only commercial RV Park which also has a Bar and Restaurant.
Dave was able to reconnect with a cousin Steve and his wife Dorinda after 50 years. Great reunion.
We had our first flounder and chips. Expensive $24. but good.
Neat artistic design on the wall.
The marsh planes at low tide. It changes over 30 feet so this area can be flooded.
More beautiful scenery.
Steve took us on a 10 mile dirt road tour into the mountain area.

Moose (mom and two calves). The white marks are where she was probably roughed up by a bear.
What else beside Wow.
Spring time in Alaska.
Some of you know me and my trips across bridges. My other time was on Zig's farm in Iowa.
Looking at the Fjord from the mountain trail.
Sun on the marsh at midnight.
Midnight, yes MIDNIGHT, sunset looking north towards Anchorage from Hope.
A seal looking at us.
Dave tried his hand at  panning for gold at Gold Rush Peck's panning instruction tent. He was a Vietnam Vet and very skilled at working the pan. He now makes more from his demonstration booth than out in the claim area.

  1. I think carving is one of the hardest forms of art. If you make a mistake you can't put it back. Great photos.
