Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

Tuesday the 4th of March was my departure day at Imperial Dam BLM. I went down to the Paradise Casino and had their breakfast special $6 for coffee, 2 eggs, hash browns 2 links of sausage and tip. From there I stopped at the Starlight Solar shop and turned in the battery core. Continued about 5 mile and filled up at the Flying J. Then drove to Gila Bend and stayed at Hoyt's Shell and RV park. It is an Escapee / Passport America park so $14 for a night with 50 amp full hookup. I did laundry and filled or cleaned the tanks as needed.
Ann would like like this image out the back window of the trailer. She did not like any kind of snake real or fake.
Wednesday I continued down to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument for two nights. David and Linda joined me there that evening.Yes my slide would have hit that cactus if I was not that far forward. This park has more strict generator hours 8-10 am and 4-6 pm only.
Thursday we took four hours to make a 21 mile tour of part of the monument.

David, Linda and I at the Organ Pipe Cactus. It got its name because it looks like a pipe organ. This is about as far north as this species can grow.

This is an anomaly growth which does not happen very often. It was on the stops for the tour.

New stem. They do not know what cause these to form but the plant needs to be about 90 years old before an arm will form.

Al and Nita (MOC friends) posted on Facebook that they were in Williams, AZ and did the South Rim Grand Canyon tour. I looked at the map and found they were about 300 miles away. Since I had no plans and we (3) had planed  to leave Friday I made reservations a Grand Canyon Railway RV park (Passport America park) for three nights and booked a train ride to the Grand Canyon and then a bus tour with lunch for Saturday.

The scenery change from the dry desert to the mountians with snow cap was different. These were taken on the drive up. The rolling clouds just caught my eye.
